Breaking News: "Spartacus: Blood & Sand" TV Series Loses Its Spartacus 12:53 AM PDT Sad news from the world of television: Andy Whitfield, the titular star of Spartacus: Blood & Sand, has to leave the show in order to receive aggressive treatment for a recurrence of cancer. He had been in remission after being treated for Stage 1 non-Hodgkins' lymphoma in March and was in training for season two. Whitfield received a clean bill of health in May and attended Comic-Con in support of the series in July. He also filmed a prequel to the series, which bridges season one and season two and will air on Starz in January. Whitfield's departure leaves the series' future in question.
