Amazon Blogs: Armchair Commentary Daily Digest

Check out these Updates from Armchair Commentary for September 6, 2010.

After months of publicity, Friday-Sunday was the premiere weekend of Disney Channel's Camp Rock 2. I missed Friday's broadcast and watched it on Saturday, which was the "Rock Along' version with sing-along subtitles. Sunday night was the dance version, and an extended edition comes out on DVD and Blu-ray on Tuesday.  A few random thoughts (warning: spoilers):

  • Demi Lovato might need to talk to her agent.  In the first movie she repeatedly lied because she was embarrased by her mom.  In this one, she was so pushy she annoyed all her friends.
  • Best song of the night: The Lovato-Joe Jonas duet, called "Wouldn't Change a Thing."  (The sing-along lyrics were actually useful when the two were singing in counterpoint.)
  • Are the campers' parents going to ask for a refund or a discount after their kids got fill-in counselors?
  • During the broadcast, a friend asked on Facebook whether Nick was going to have a bigger role since "Joe looks like a dork now." The answer is yes--Nick even got to play the second romantic lead.
  • The girl he romances is played by Chloe Bridges, a relative newcomer who reportedly auditioned for the lead role in the original Camp Rock movie that went to Lovato.
  • Nick also got to sing a solo song, "Introducing Me," which was charming but to my ear sounded like a copy of Jason Mraz's "I'm Yours."
  • Thanks in part to Nick's story line and other distractions, Alyson Stoner and Meaghan Martin had barely anything to do compared to their roles in the first movie.
  • When it comes to Disney Channel movies, I much prefer the High School Musical series.
