Check out these Updates from Armchair Commentary for September 3, 2010.

The kids are headed back to school and whether they're nervous, excited, or downright petrified, there's a DVD out there that addresses exactly what they're going through.  For the little ones headed to school for the very first time, Nick Jr. just released The First Day of School, a compilation which features three shows about what kids can expect when starting school (Dora, Wonder Pets, and Blue's Clues) as well as three more toddler shows (Diego, Kai-lan, and another Wonder Pets episode).  Also, check out how Wubbzy gets over his nervousness about going to school in Wow Wow Wubbzy: Wubbzy Goes to Schoolor follow Curious George on his visit to kindergarten in Curious George: Back to School.

Tweens and Teens have a whole different set of concerns about going back to school and there are plenty of DVDs out there that offer some perspective on dealing with issues like peer pressure, fitting in, and bullying. Being the new kid in school is never easy and Alice Upside Down addresses just how difficult that can be in middle school while Private and The Cliqueoffer more extreme looks at the difficulty, and advisability, of trying to fit in with the "in" crowd. If bullying is a concern, check out An American Girl: Chrissa Stands Strongfor some ideas about what to do when you're the victim of bullying. The Christian film To Save a Life explores teen suicide with a heavy emphasis on faith and the power of one to make a difference. For an exaggerated look at the dichotomy between the worlds of the high school jocks versus the nerds, check out High School Musicaland Glee: The Complete First Season--both will inspire lots of laughter and maybe even a sense of respect for those who might be different from oneself. For those looking to study up on some specific subjects, Percy Jackson and the Olympians: Lightening Thief offers a good background in Greek mythology and the 30th Anniversary edition of Schoolhouse Rock features 46 musical shorts on everything from multiplication to grammar rules and American History.
