Watching movies on your TV -- nothing new. Watching movies online -- more and more people do this every day. But what about using your TV to go online and watch movies? Isn't that complicated? Let's say that "The Town" put you in the mood for Ben Affleck movies. You might be able to find some using your DVR/cable box. But I feel like I've always been able to find more stuff through my computer than through my TV. Google TV solves this by bringing the best of TV together with the best of the web into one seamless experience so you can always find what you want to watch. It was announced earlier this year, but starting this week, you'll finally be able to buy a Google TV box (well, pre-order one) from places like Amazon.com.

As an app-happy Android phone owner, I’ve been excited to see what Google would bring to my big screen (Android was built by Google too). And as a fan of Amazon Video On Demand on the web, I’ve been excited to see what the experience would be like on Google TV. I had a chance to get an early peek at the Logitech Google TV box, and it’s a fabulous way to experience Amazon Video On Demand, which has more than 75,000 hit movies and TV shows available to watch instantly on the web or on your connected TV. Google TV is all about the instant gratification part of Amazon Video On Demand -- I used the keyboard/controller to click to “Robin Hood” and within seconds I was seeing Russell Crowe in all his leather-clad glory. Seriously, how does he make grime look so good? And noble? And hot? Oh, wait, that’s the flaming arrows. But I digress. Google TV has an express-lane pathway to Amazon Video On Demand, but it also promises easy access to the Internet in ways that are familiar to anyone who’s surfed the web on their computer, but would feel new on the big screen: Instead of just watching CNN, you can interact with CNN.com. If you can get past all the movies. -- Stephanie Reid-Simons
